Back in October a lovely lady over on the Siamese and Oriental Cat Chat group on facebook commissioned a portrait off me of her absolutely gorgeous havannah, Myah. Myah had sadly passed away after an illness last year and I was asked to create a portrait in her memory. I was so touched to hear… Continue reading “In Loving Memory – Myah” Christmas Portrait Commission and Process
Where has all the daylight gone! My desk can’t hold any more lamps and it’s still not light enough! This has to be my least favourite part of winter. It’s always so dark. Roll on, spring! Been steadily working on my current commission of Chando the ridgeback. It’s 21 x 29cm (a tiny bit smaller… Continue reading Chando work in progress
Last week I finished a graphite portrait of a gorgeous, sweet old dog called Moses as a gift for my client’s sister. Now that she’s seen it and it’s been sent off to Germany, I’ve been given the go-ahead to show it to you all! 🙂 I had a lot of fun with this one,… Continue reading “Moses” Finished Portrait Commission and Progress
I’m so excited and proud to announce that my artwork “Knobbed Hornbill” came 7th in the Colored Pencil Magazine Annual Competition! You can find me in the November 2015 issue of the Colored Pencil Magazine and in their 2016 Calendar. I’m so unbelievably happy right now! 😀 Congrats to all the other winners! My pieces… Continue reading Colored Pencil Magazine and Colors of Humanity Winner!
I added the finishing touches to this portrait last night! There is nothing more satisfying than finishing a drawing and taking it down off my drawing board 😀 It took me a while to come up with a name for this one… but I think the name “Faith” is pretty apt, don’t you? The original… Continue reading “Faith” – Finished German Shepherd Portrait and Step-by-Step
Just a quick update on this guy – I’m roughly 60% of the way through now. Got all of my base colours down minus the metal on the collar. Now that I know where all the markings and shadows need to go it’s just adding detail everywhere and fleshing out all the fur. 🙂 I’m… Continue reading German Shepherd Portrait Update: The Home Stretch!
I started a new dog portrait last Thursday and decided to draw it on my newly-purchased Fabriano Artistico 140lb hot-pressed watercolour paper. My first impressions of the paper is that it is a slightly smoother and much denser paper than my usual Strathmore Bristol Vellum. The colours layer beautifully and because it’s such a heavy… Continue reading German Shepherd portrait on Fabriano Artistico paper
It was a productive day all around on Friday! Not only did I finish my Knobbed Hornbill portrait in coloured pencil, but I also finished my graphite portrait of Toto, my siamese cat, too! I’ll be getting it framed soon and will be hanging it on my bedroom wall 😀
Apologies for the lack of updates, I really need to update this blog more often to keep up with my instagram and facebook accounts! I’ve just made a start on a 29 x 20.5cm portrait of a hornbill. I saw a photo on wildliferencephotos.com and felt a flash of inspiration! I just had to draw… Continue reading Hornbill Work In Progress and Toto Portrait Update!
“Dennis” Portrait Commission, 21 x 30cm in coloured pencils. Just finished drawing this beautiful boy! I had a lot of fun experimenting with warm greys with this piece. Now it’s ready to be shipped off to its new home. Thankfully the sun has decided to peek out from under the rainclouds today, so I was… Continue reading Dennis Commission and progress shots
