I am really behind on my updates! My gosh! An awful lot has happened in the last months and it has been a very stressful time for me. Unfortunately my artwork has lapsed because of this. I do apologise for the lack of updates! Thankfully I am back on track now so expect plenty of youtube videos and blog posts to come!

Holiday doodle! For the last 2 weeks I’ve been abroad, but of course I couldn’t leave my precious art supplies behind, so I brought a limited selection of my coloured pencils with me. This is one of the doodles from my trip!
I brought the full set of 72 Caran d’Ache Luminance with me along with 3 polychromos pencils (my “essential” three – dark indigo, dark sepia and black). Obviously I couldn’t bring any paint thinner, so I was having to rely on the small bottle of touch-up texture by brushandpencil.com for my layering.
I basically laid down my base colours, then burnished everything out completely, then painted a layer of touch-up texture over my burnished areas and added detail and highlights over the top (adding more layers of touch-up texture and detail where necessary). And it worked BRILLIANTLY! And surprisingly quick, too! This drawing is roughly A5 in size and took around 4 hours to complete. I think if I did this on the regular though, I would go through the tiny bottles of touch-up texture a little too quickly! Thankfully I have a couple of the spray cans at home 😉
I am currently working on a commission of an absolutely stunning cat named Pearl – I am really looking forward to sharing work in progress shots with you!
I also have a couple of Youtube “Art Tips” videos on the way for those of you who are artistically inclined- they just need editing but expect the first one to drop in the next few days. It will illustrate how I did the technique I used above for my giraffe drawing using touch-up texture. In the meantime be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel so you don’t miss out on anything!
Until next time!
