I recently reopened pet portrait commissions and I’m excited to be drawing fur babies again!
I would like to introduce you to Jackson, the german spitz! I have a soft spot for spitz-type dogs so this commission has been a lot of fun for me so far! The underpainting and background are mostly laid out now, and have been blended with paint thinner, ready for the details and fur texture to be drawn on top.
There is something just so lovely about the combination of purple shadows and warm lighting. I love that colour combo! Hopefully I’m managing to achieve a soft and dreamy look with this portrait. Here’s a closeup of me adding some fur and detail to Jackson’s face:
This piece is a 15x15cm square portrait. I’m using mainly Caran d’Ache Luminance and Derwent Lightfast pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat. In my next post I’ll show off the finished portrait! Really enjoying this one, so it’s progressing quick!
Speaking of which, want to treat yourself or someone you know to a painting of your fur baby? You can find my commission info here. I’ve added new options as well, including different kinds of backgrounds for pet portraits such as bokeh – to get that soft, dreamy look (just like Jackson’s portrait above)!
I’ve also been busy doing a big update to my website to make it a bit easier to navigate and have added a customer review page, etsy integration, made my commission info more readable… pwor! Still tinkering with it in places, but for now I’m so happy with how the site looks. 😀
